On Nov. 14, 2007. 17 year old Tim Schiefelbein was in a serious car accident.  He was driving to fast over some steep rail road tracks.  His car went airborne, came down bounced up and came down again then slid 180 degrees into a telephone pole.  Thank God someone witnessed the accident and called 911.  They were there in just a few minutes.  It took them 18 min to cut him out of the car.

Both his lungs collapsed, his spleen was ruptured, damaged his intestines and did severe damage to the right side of his head.  They were just minutes from calling the trauma doctor to the scene.  They stabilized him enough to send him for a CT scan then sent him immediately off to surgery.  They took out a large subdural hematoma and removed part of his skull and put in his abdomen.  He had bilateral chest tubes, his spleen was removed, and he had bowel resection.  He was on a ventilator for a little over a month.

He was in two different ventilator facilities before he was moved to the Rehab Institute of Chicago for a 3 week trail program, He was there for 10 days and had a seizure and was sent to Northwester Hospital for 2 weeks.  Because he had not made any progress at RIC in the first 10 days he was unable to finish the trail program.  He was sent to HInsdale Hospital for 2 weeks while they tried to find a place for him.  They were unsuccessful so Tim was sent home.  Tim's mother Diane felt blessed that God had guided her through this and is thankful that his last days were at his home.
